Change your invitation link

When you publish, your invitation gets a short address such as vowly.co/e/emma-james. With a paid subscription the event owner can change its wording once; links you have sent and printed QR codes keep working.

How your short address is made

Your invitation gets its short address when you publish it. For weddings and engagements it is made from the hosts' first names, such as vowly.co/e/emma-james; for other events, from the event title. If that address is already used, the year and then the city are added.

If no short address can be made, for example from a name with no Latin letters, the invitation keeps its long link, which works just as well. If your invitation has no short address yet, its row shows Shorten the link: press it to get one, free of charge.

Change the address

  1. Open Invitation in the menu on the left. RSVP settings is just below Share invitation.
  2. Press Invitation link. Under it you see Change the link.
  3. Type the new address. When it shows Available, press Save link.
  4. Confirm with Change.

An address has 3 to 40 characters: lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens, with at least one letter. Some words are reserved and cannot be used.

You can change it once

  • After publishing, the address can be changed once. After that the row shows Changed once after publishing. To change it again, write to support@vowly.co.
  • The old address keeps forwarding guests to your invitation, and personal links you have already sent keep working.
  • Printed QR codes are not affected: the QR code points to your event's permanent link, not to the short address.
  • Changing the address sends nothing to your guests. Share the new address from now on.

A year after your event

Twelve months after your event date, once your invitation is no longer open to guests, the short address is released so that someone else can use it. The long link and your QR code still point to your event. An event more than a year old cannot get a new short address.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to send my guests the new link?

No. Links you have already sent and printed QR codes keep working, and the old address forwards to your invitation. Use the new address for anything you share from now on.

Can I use my own domain, like ourwedding.com?

No. Your invitation always stays on vowly.co. With a paid subscription you can choose the words after vowly.co/e/.

Why can I not change the link during my free trial?

Choosing the wording yourself is part of a paid subscription and is not included in the free trial. The automatic short address is free.
